Singletary Center Expansion (Lexington, KY)

Singletary Center Expansion (Lexington, KY)

Project Background
Light has played an integral part in the history of both architecture and art. Light is a powerful medium that can transcend an ordinary museum to a sacred space that worships art,
and stimulate the observer’s emotions. The manipulations of natural light, in conjunction with artificial light, animate the spaces, and allure the viewer to these spaces to admire the art pieces. This project is a design of an adjacent freestanding museum to the Singletary Centre of the University of Kentucky. The intent is to investigate the power of natural and artificial light in their various forms of emanation such as: ambient light, diffused light and spot
light. Light in this museum is an assertive element. Light is the theme in this project, as a driving force to people’s paths to the four independent interlocking galleries, connected by
circulation from the glass elevator shaft in the centre.
